Renesas to Boost Semiconductor Chip Production in China

According to a Xinhua report, Japan-based Renesas Technology aims to boost its semiconductor chip production in China by the end of 2008, from the current capacity of 50 million to 90 million units per year. The company also plans to increase its R&D and design work force from 350 at present to 500. Renesas has two plants in China, one in Beijing and the other in Suzhou. The capacity expansion project will be carried out via enhancing production efficiency and augmenting production lines at the present plants.
